Digital FM Solutions

What is Digital FM Solutions?

Digital FM Solutions use radio signals to transmit amplified sounds, but adding digital technology that scrambles signals to unauthorized users attempting to “eavesdrop” on the FM broadcast. This makes Digital FM far more secure than traditional analog FM systems available in the marketplace today.

FM solutions are popular in classroom settings, where the instructor wears a small microphone connected to a transmitter and the student wears the receiver, which is tuned to a specific frequency, or channel.

A listener who is an existing user of hearing aids and cochlear implants can also use their device combined with an external neckloop or a silhouette inductor to convert the signal into magnetic signals that can be picked up directly by the listener’s own device. This saves the use of more additional equipment to provide the assistive listening experience.

FM systems can transmit signals up to 25 meters and are able to be used in many public places. However, because radio signals are able to plaster walls, listeners in one room may need to listen to a different channel than those in another room to avoid receiving mixed signals.  This is where digital FM has an advantage in that the transmitting part can restrict the reach of his signal just to individuals on an authorised frequency.

Personal FM system operates in the same way as larger scale systems and can be used to help people with hearing loss to follow one-on-one conversation. It also works out of the box with no installation required, providing an instant solution for auditing of building functions for hearing accessibility.
